BIOGRAPHIES
Leopoldo Pomés (Barcelona, 1931) made a striking entry onto the national photography scene in 1955 with his debut exhibit at Galeries Laietanes in Barcelona, which generated a considerable stir. Connected with the Dau al Set group of painters, Pomés soon became one of the most influential figures in the avant-garde photography of the time. His career in advertising is highlighted by iconic campaigns created alongside Karin Leiz, including the Terry girl on a white horse and Freixenet's renowned bubbles, among many others. Pomés has received advertising awards at the Venice and Cannes festivals, directed the opening ceremony of the 1982 FIFA World Cup, and led the campaign for Barcelona’s bid to host the 1992 Olympics. Additionally, he was the visionary behind several of Barcelona's most distinctive restaurants. His published works include Comer es una fiesta (2006) and the poetry collection Vidre de nit seguit de Polvo de sombras (Quaderns Crema, 2015).

Juliet Pomés Leiz (Barcelona, 1963) studied at the German School and later pursued Architecture and Fine Arts in Barcelona. Since 1992, following a stay in New York, she has alternated her work as a painter, illustrator, and author. For Tusquets Editors, she conceived and illustrated the children’s book series Simó, which includes six titles. She co-authored Barcelona Design Guide (Gustavo Gili, 1990) and authored Carnet de Voyage Un dia al Born (2009) and Les Corts (2011). Her illustrations also appear in works such as Las verduras de muchas maneras (2011) by Karin Leiz, Anna Manso’s youth series Una noia N.O.R.M.A.L., and Catalan Cuisine (2014). She shares with her father a love for fine food in every sense.
On the 30th anniversary of its publication, we present this special edition, refreshed and enhanced with illustrations by Juliet Pomés Leiz, of a true culinary classic dedicated to the simplest and most successful contribution of Catalan cuisine: bread with tomato. This is not merely a brief theoretical treatise on its origins and preparation, sprinkled with priceless humorous touches; it is also an invitation to indulge in its practice, featuring 70 delectable recipes that encourage you to explore the versatility and exquisite nature of a dish so simple that, in the hands of a hedonistic and aesthetic gastronome like Leopoldo Pomés, it offers delightful surprises. "In the apparent simplicity of tomato bread, Pomés has discovered the recipe for sensuality, pleasure, and life that he has so often portrayed." (From the foreword by David Trueba).
