Mid-season. What a drag! Let’s say a March or November morning, you open your wardrobe to choose what to wear knowing in advance that most likely you’ll make the wrong choice. Not to mention the outer clothing: if you don’t pick out any, you will definitely feel cold; if you choose a blazer or a cardigan, it will end up being too thick. An elementary solution: the Harrington jacket.
Created in England by the Baracuta company in the 30s, the so-called G9 was conceived as a light & roomy jackets worn to play golf, made of cotton & fitted at the waist to ensure fluidity of the swing. In 1958, Elvis Presley popularized the G9 by wearing it in the film King Creole, and a few years later (in the mid-60s), it was Ryan O'Neal who, playing the role of Rodney Harrigton in the Payton Place series – hence his name –, definitely took it off. No doubt that James Dean & Steve McQueen made it popular. And from Hollywood, back to London in the 70s. It has such a magnetism that it ends up being an iconic garment – probably the only one – shared by two antagonistic sub-cultures: mods & skins. The underground vanishes, but already in the 90s the main two Britpop stars –Damon Albarn & Liam Gallagher– do wear it again. Whether almost a century later it is still in force speaks of its absolute versatility and, above all, its timeless essence. You'll know it's a Harrington jacket by its tartan lining. You will notice that ours is original because it has a registered trademark. Welcome spring! Welcome Autumn!
