BIOGRAPHY
Kenneth Frampton (b. 1930) studied architecture at the Architectural Association in London and has taught at universities around the world. He is the author of numerous books and essays on the history and theory of architecture, including the seminal A Critical History of Modern Architecture (1980), as well as Studies in Tectonic Culture (1995) and the collected essays Labour, Work and Architecture (2002). In 2018, he was awarded the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at the 16th Venice Architecture Biennale
Since its first edition in 1980, Kenneth Frampton's Critical History of Modern Architecture has become an essential classic in academic literature on the history of modern architecture. In this extensively revised and updated fifth edition, the author has added a new and extensive section that explores in detail the evolution of the Modern Movement in architecture worldwide at the end of the 20th and beginning of the 21st centuries. It examines the various ways in which architects not only respond to geographic, climatic, material, and cultural contexts but also, they follow different approaches to topography, morphology, sustainability, and civic form.
